A triple disruption of the superior shoulder suspensory complex mistaken for a double disruption: a case report

Abstract
The superior shoulder suspensory complex (SSSC) is a ring-shaped structure that plays an important role in the stability of the shoulder joint. Isolated injuries to one of three components of SSSC are relatively common, but injuries that affect the three components simultaneously are extremely rare. We present a case if a triple disruption of the SSSC: a midclavicular fracture, a type 1 coracoid fracture, and an acromioclavicular (AC) joint separation. We had initially overlooked the presence of the AC joint injury, but when it was discovered we performed an additional stabilizing procedure to address the lesion. As such, the triple disruption of SSSC can be mistaken for a double disruption of SSSC; therefore, SSSC requires a more careful preoperative and intraoperative evaluation.
